First purchases of 2014 ...

I like shopping. Okay I LOVE ... really LOVE shopping for new fabric - it's why I have a fabby stash which means that I sometimes don't have to shop when making a new quilt, cushion or Pants Bag. In an attempt to help me calculate how much money I will spend this year on fabric, I bought this tin:

Every time I purchase new fabric, the receipt will go in the tin. At the end of the year, I'm going to add it up (and probably not show DH!) That I have already purchased fabric before the first week of January has ended worries even me ... perhaps I'll need a bigger tin :(

This little bundle is going towards a quilt I'll be making for my friend's baby Iris: (updated 06 Jan to show fabric names) -

top: MODA - Cream dandelions friends and wrens
middle: Dashwood Studio - Teal Clouds
bottom: Michael Miller - Patio Lights

And this for a play mat for baby Saffron (I'm in love with the Michael Miller hearts and the bunny fabric is by MODA - Posy Honeysuckle Bunny Rabbits):

And this for the next round of my Strip Bee:

I am not going to buy any more fabric in January ... well, I'll try :)

  1. I am going to keep burying my head in the sand when it comes to how much I spend on my quilting fixes!

  2. Glinda, I like you receipt - saving idea. I just made my first purchase of the year yesterday, so I could begin now. I've made big strides in using the stash, but every now and then a girl has to indulge!

  3. I'd have a very miserable end to December if I kept track throughout the year. I'd rather not know how much I spend.
I'm just trying to work out whose quilt that is for, but i can't, so I'll just have to wait until I see them in person!

  4. LOL! I love your tin of denial. I always like keeping track, too. I figure if I use what I buy (and sometimes my stash) while staying in budget, then I am doing good.

  5. Haha! Hubby asked if the tin receipt was in the tin too. Now - you must tell me what that butterfly fabric is in the top photo. Pretty sure my life is incomplete without it.
PS - the tin wouldn't work for me - I buy online so I can hide the cost in a Visa bill and be none the wiser. I suspect I have a problem, but I'm good at denial.

  6. The tin is hilarious. I made a fabric purchase today but it was at a great price so that's Ok isn't it? I've told myself that's got to be it for a while.

  7. This is one idea I'm going to pass on. I don't even want to know. I haven't purchased any fabric this year. There were so many sales last month, I may be good for a couple more weeks...lol Your new tin is adorable.

  8. Oh oh oh! The tins! This is such a brilliant idea -- I might do the same. Although I live in that Tin of Denial, so not much else would fit! LOL! Thanks for linking up!

  10. You crack me up with that tin! I want one too! I have got a small tin which says "Random Crap - finders keepers" but it is way too small for the many receipts I will gather in 2014. ;-)
Love , LOVE , the fabric you got! It is so wonderful!!! I wish I could get my hands on these fabric lines here in Europe for a decent price!
Thank you for making me want them, ha ha!

  12. Great tin - made me smile! I once read that the average quilter spends 1200 a year in fabric . . . Didn't believe it until I started keeping track. Yikes! It's only Jan 6 - are you sure you can hold out for the rest of the month?

  13. That tin is funny! Makes me want to do this. I haven't bought any fabric this year yet. I could still start keeping track!! Would be kinda nice to know how much money I used to have!

  14. That tin is a great (but scary idea)! I am actually tracking on excel right now and having to record the spend is making me think twice about making some new purchases.

  15. The Tin of Denial is brave. I have a general idea, and I'm pretty good with things but I don't know that at the end of the year I'd want to see just how much I'd spent.

The cloud print by the way is just lovely.
